Frontend Engineer / Designer - Contractor
I have just released an early version of a revamped product called ContractHound. It's built with Python/Django. Using Alpine.JS, HTMX and Bootstrap 5.0 on the frontend. A lot of the Bootstrap theme is from one of the themes on creative-tim.com
I am looking for someone who knows layout and frontend design well. The best way I think I can put this is:
I'm not looking for a designer who can code. I'm looking for a frontend developer with a sense of taste .
You
- Know Bootstrap and HTML / CSS extremely well.
- Excellent Javascript knowledge
- Eye for design & layout. You are able to produce polished looking layouts
- You undersatnd coding principles and can work through performance issues. You can work with git and work with a github pr workflow
- Can produce clean, modular code
- +/- 5 hours from London/Dublin
- You have work you can show me where I can see the code
- Excellent English
- Knows Python / Django - you don't need to be a Django expert, but you should be able to make small changes to views, edit templates etc.
- Alpine.js - desirable but optional
- HTMX - desirable but optional
- Not an agency. Will work with independent devs only
- Very happy for you to be working on this part-time (ie evenings and weekends if that suits) if you're in a full time role providing you can turn work around in a day or two.
- Work will be sporadic. We're very early with customers and haven't enough yet to justify bringing someone in X hours per month. Would suit someone contracting / working full time who is ok with some variety in hours
- Ok using Discord
Us
- Twitter / LinkedIn This is me
- Contracthound App This is the app
- I have a software engineering background. Was a VP Engineering in a previous role.
- Because I come from a software background, I have some standards and some opinions ;-)
The work
- I'm not at all interested in SPA / React / Vue etc. frameworks for this project
- We've kept the technology set simple, so you'll need to be comfortable editing Django templates with HTML & Bootstrap CSS classes
- We've got a lot of small work to do around prettying up existing pages
- We've got a larger piece of project work around a workflow builder. A lot of the workflow engine is done on the backend for this already.
- I used a contractor to do a lot of the Python / Django work so far. He told me his billable rate. I spec up a piece of work for him. He would give me an estimate. He'd do the work. I'd review it. We'd merge it. He'd send me an invoice and I'd pay it.
- He is still doing work on the project. Happy to introduce you to him
- Because we're using Bootstrap and a theme from creative-tim.com, there isn't a huge amount of CSS (if any) to actually write. You do need to know how to put the classes together though.
- Most of the work goes from simple styling (tables, cards), making sure the pages are responsive to slightly more complicated things like File uploading
- I've chosen mostly simple things today - Datatables are done using datatables.net. File uploading with Dropzone etc.
- There is a lot of opportunity for cleanup. We use Django templates for everything, but not a lot has been modularized.
Next Steps
- Email : phil@growlabs.io with

- references (if any)

- Please, no agencies. You will just be wasting your time and mine
